Compositions in a bit of an avant-garde vein, ranging from straight-sounding fusion to sparse experimentalism. Playful feeling overall (check out the song titles). Doug Young on guitar leads the session and is probably responsible for the multiple mood changes on the disc.
Overall it does have the feel of a musical story or journey ... and, in fact, the two-CD set follows a four-part narration that vaguely follows current events and world trends (see liner notes, and good luck).
DISK ONE
1- Calm chamber-music wanderings
2- Small and perky
3- Pensive steady beat, w/screechy guitar; sinister melodic finale
4- Pleasant, mellow midtempo
5- Coolly creeping, w/ sparkly guitar solo
6- Fast, swirly middle-East-sounding melody
7- Slow, careful
8- Short bits separated by laughing
9- Vacantly happy; meant to mimic NPR bumper music, probably. Cute idea.
10- Chaotic improv w/voices
11- Goofy playful little bit
12- Rolling searing guitar
13- Slow and morose
DISK TWO
1- Bright, proggy
2- Swinging rambunctious start, then quiet
3- Somber and sparse, w/spiky ghostly guitar shredding
4- Uptempo big-band-like sound
5- Slow and drifting. Starts ominous, ends pretty
6- Start/stop carnival music, surreal
7- Mid/fast flowing bop jazz
8- Fusion; pleasant, catchy, kinda nice
9- Short guitar outro
