Obvious references would be all things 4AD, romantic, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds only fronted by Ian Curtis (Joy Division vocalist). But that’s not fair. This band has brought “traditional” songwriting w/ lush arrangements, Hammond B3, guits, vibes, to a whole other level. The “cool suit” crowd loves these guys: picture 6 sexy overtalented consummate musicians truly involved in their instruments weaving a sultry smokey web of gleeful darkness (sorry gals, they are mostly ordinary guys with wives and kids). I cant say enough good abut this band. Ive never met a band who paid more attention to detail whether in the studio or live (can you say 3 hour sound check?). And it pays off here. Every song is a masterpiece. Includes duet with Lhasa de Sala.
1) Spanish, dark, grisly, chill
2) menacing dark, builds
3) pretty triplet ballad
4) slightly rockin, velvet underground, spoken lyric delivery and feel
5) chill musicbox feel
6) 70’s soul pop ballad feel, whoa
7) duet with Lhasa
8) slow-med paced ballady, sad feel, epic strings
9) decidedly western, cowpoke feel turns ‘sticks real quick, kinda surreal
10) lush, dark, typical, intense
