Recording of Bahamian folk singers. Obvious similarities to American gospel and spiritual music. I liked 1, 3, 6.
1) 110 bpm. Strange mixture of a spiritual and Jamaican toasting. Male soloist, mixed chorus.
2) 80 bpm. Three male voices. Another spiritual, closer to gospel.
3) 90 bpm. Male quartet. Hummed intro. Beautiful harmonies, and emotionally intense.
4) Male trio. Free flowing, with unusual harmonies. More overt African influences.
5) 110 bpm. Upbeat song, mixed vocal quartet, with guitar accompaniment. Cool growling bass line.
6) ~40 bpm. Male trio, again with the weird, growling bass, and a haunting refrain.
7) 80 bpm. Female alto lead, restrained spiritual with counterpoint.
8) Slow spiritual. Similar to (6). Brief semi-chanted, faster section 2/3 of the way through.
9) 70 bpm. Guitar and male solo. Simple but beautiful, bluesy.
10) Female vocal solo plainly sung. Funny little song about King Knut, who ordered back the sea.
11) Sim. to (10). About a guy who marries an old woman for money.
12) 90 bpm. Spiritual. male quartet. Nice stuff.
13) Male solo. About a ghost haunting sponge fishermen.
14) 110 bpm. Mixed vocal quartet and guitar. Well-known spiritual. Loose, bluesy performance.
