Plan to Pink, Debutante Ball
Nice garagey girly pop—bell-like guitars, with jangly, slightly out of tune instrumentation; two singers. Most of the songs are pretty short, and have lots of instrumental breaks. The songs are very different from each other; some have xylophone and/or viola filling them out. Lyrics are straightforward and on unexpected subjects. Mostly hovering around midtempo.
*1. (4:19) lazy upbeat, the welcome to the CD song. 2nd half is instrumental.
2. (1:47) midtempo, persistent perc.
3. (1:38) strange, insistent scolding—uneasy sound, insistent tempo—“mine!”
*4. (3:47) laid back, with vocal harmonies, plucky melody; violas in instr. Break. A song about teeth.
5. (2:08) slinky midtempo, muted trumpets, bell-guitar strumming
*6. (3:41) bopping stroll, xylophone theme, vocal harmonies; garagey pop tempo changes
*7. (1:18) chugging punky uptempo, slutty dressed-up female desperation—“Pick me up! I’ve got big ones!”
8. (1:38) interesting meter conflicts, halting, sorta urgently chaotic
*9. (2:45) waltz, sparkly lush xylophone fantasy, about soap opera clichés—lament of the mistress.
*10. (4:30) two guitars in counterpoint—simple, but pretty. Vaguely mexican guitar meeting complacent pop; builds to end. Different sound from rest of album.
