Re: Language
Since this is music from Cape Verde, that would be Portuguese Creole.

Maria DeBarros has a nice voice and the instrumentals on this CD were good. However, I just didn’t find any of the melodies particularly engaging or memorable. The lyrics are intriguing– they are largely political– but I’m not even sure what language they are sung in.
1) Riberonzinha– male vocalists intermittently throughout song; female vocalist for most of it; slow, but with insistent rhythm; seductive and warm 2) Cabo Verde N’ot Era– faster, more upbeat song; strong rhythm; the song is all about revolution 3) Regresa– fast, sexual song; lyrics are about the celebration after revolution 4) Djabraba Nha Terra Natal– sad song about leaving the land of her birth; kind of slow and boring 5) Nha Primero Lar– sad but catchy song; repetitive guitar melody; pretty 6) Mi Nada Um Ca Tem– fun, fast song with a dance beat; all about the joys and simplicity of poverty 7) La Gloria Eres Tu– warm, romantic song with trumpet/brass instrumentals; seductive and summery 8) So Um Melodia– bouncy, fun song with a strong dance beat 9) Nao Nhu– rallying cry for women’s right; sad and angry vocals, passionate 10) Triste Gonia– sad, slow song about lost love; very pretty 11) Nha Mundo– bouncy song about nationalism and one’s country; kind of dull, though 12) Manha de Carnaval– soft, seductive, warm song; strong rhythm in the background from guitars; picks up in the middle
