The 2nd release by these local prog-rockers keeps up the pace from their excellent debut from last year. There’s a mix of Magma, early King Crimson, Gong (mostly ‘cause of the saxophone parts), and even places where you can almost imagine a young Peter Gabriel singing about giant hogweeds & such. (YES, that’s a compliment!). Them throw in some Mahavishnu Orchestra & you’ve got a mighty nice mix. Better “the kids” digging on this that some “fashion-pop” crap like The Strokes or whatever. Hey, kids this is called “PROG-ROCK”! So stick that in your damn ‘hipster handbook’!

(((1))) Kinda heavy, singular-note bass pummelling ‘ala King Crimson with rather big Anthony Banks (Genesis) style keyboards & King Crimson/Gong-like sax. Killer! Actually sounds a tad modern, too.
((((2)))) Noodling, jazzy keyboards/vintage sounding synths...floating around Camel/1973-4-ish Genesis, and some funky Mahavishnu aspects, too.
(3) Very mellow, ‘floating in space’ vs. ‘tinkling ivories’ sounds. Too short, not much goin’ on here.
((((4)))) Uptempo, rockin’ prog, baby! Rick Wakeman would be proud! Or better yet, jealous! Sounds like a sandwich with the bread being Gabriel-era Genesis, ‘72-’74-era Yes and the ‘middle’ being Camel. Delicious!
(((5))) Holy crap-they just got all “post-rock” here. Actually, post-rock is an ultra-lame term, so let’s say this is more like the verrrrry awesome sounds of the Durutti Column. Mellow, strummy guitars over chirping, echoey beats.
((((6)))) Driving rythmn not too unlike say, Trans Am if they say had Bill Bruford (of Yes and King Crimson) on drums & the Durutti Column’s Vini Reily on guitar. Bad ass!
((((7)))) Flowing, 1-2-3-4 pattern rolling on the moog/keyboard thingy, more of that Camel meets King Crimson sound. Intricate structure but not totally intricate that it becomes all loony like E.L.P.
((8)) Jazzy guitars, with a sort of samba beat (!). Best thing is the guitars, not much else.
(((((9))))) Totally posi-prog sounding! Super uplifiting & just totally ‘take charge’ kind of sound. Both modern & classic at the same time! All-round killer tune, without any doubt! Best track on the album (it was a tough pick, mind you!)
(((10))) Dub-like beats, then some odd R.I.O. (R.I.O. = Rock In Opposition, sort of a not-so-rock like based prog-esque style ‘ala bands like Univers Zero, Present, Henry Cow, etc.)
sounding structures with weird, sliding notes, off-kilter patterns all over. Trippy.
