Snakes in my Veins
Crack Pipes
Fun garage-rock, with bluesy influences. Sounds like Les Savy Fav on the best songs, more like the Mooney Suzuki on the less rousing songs, but a pretty strong album all the way through. My favs: 2, 5, *10*, and 11.
1. Messy drums with riffy guitar work and attitude-y, Les Savy Fav-esque male vocals. Fun track.
2. ***Nice little beat, meaty guitar. Screamy-vocals. Awesome song.
3. Cool, mellow keyboard, nice little groove.
4. Pretty rocking riff. Screamy vocals. Good ndirty, garage rock.
5. **Pretty, folky acoustic guitar. Good Lou Reed impersonation.
6. Doors-esque groove. Down-tempo.
7. Messy guitar and sneering, affected vocals.
8. Meaty guitar riff and steady drum beat. Bluesy feel. Nice groove to it.
9. More screamy vocals over uptempo drums and guitar line.
10. ****Really pretty, reverb-ed guitar. Nice and atmospheric. Some violin comes in later. Sort of reminds me of a Dirty Three track with vocals. Pretty frigginawesome.
11. *Almost a mo-town sort of feel to this track, or like old Rolling Stones. Organ, slow drum-beat. Some talking and testifying from the singer.
12. Rocking cover of an Aretha Franklin song. Turns it into a standard, screaming garage-rock song, complete with guitar solo.
13. Animals cover, screaming and messy guitar.
