Good, solid release from the Clan. Characteristic of this style of music, the band focuses on using electronic instruments to put music together with some variations such as a guitar on some and violins/violas/cellos on others.
Two years in the making, Farewell is Clan of Xymox's latest contribution to the industrial music scene. One of the few bands to have survived numerous label changes, a couple of name changes and some changes in sound, Farewell seems to bring it all together. There are several tracks that follow a more dancey, EBM-style music and harmony, while others present a more mellow, new wave style.
the good: something for everyone; some dance hits and some slower goth tunes the bad: the voice is sometimes too far in the background when not necessary the ugly: mis-numbered tracks on the back. Doh!
potty-mouth tracks: none detected
(note: all numbers are out of 10, i.e. 5/10) 1.Farewell: Good beat and lyrics; steady tempo (9) 2.Cold Damp Day: another “dance” one (8) 3.There's No Tomorrow: one with guitars; good beat (8) 4.Dark Mood: one with violins; ends at -2:50 w/long outro (8) 5.One More Time: nice intro w/ violins & guitar; more “new wave” sounding (8) 6.Into Extremes: another one that sounds more “new wave”...kinda like Peter Murphy (8) 7.It's Not Enough: something you can move your ass to at a club (9) 8.Courageous: heavy, steady beat with some darker vocals (9) 9.Losing My Head: older xymox sound; nice acoustic guitar and orchestration (8) 10.Skindeep: electronic sounding with good lyrics (7)
