Rocketship CD
Lots of different styles for a five-track CD, but all hinting at psychedelic pop.
1. Chopped-up, skippy-sounding orchestral pop
2. Slow and low key, nice vocals
3. Rocketship has always been prone to this dream/noise pop but this, I’m sorry, is simply a My Bloody Valentine ripoff
4. Phil Spector doing indie rock – a modest start and then a kichen-sink finish, with hallucinatory voices
5. Glistening synth washes
Trace CD
Organ- and guitar-driven arrangements of simple pop tunes might suggest Yo La Tengo. Some good stuff, some (should-have-been) throwaways.
1. Strong riffing and excellent, complex rhythm and melody
2. Crazy guitar riff and an almost unbearably off-key vocal and tuneless organ
3. Big organ chords
4. Quieter guitar and organ and again, a not-quite-in-tune vocal
5. Loud and proud full-throttle melodic pop
6. Earnest, simple
7. Pounding and riff-happy
