Soft indie-pop/rock. Sounds a little like the more relaxed tracks from the Doves; Coldplay; Tindersticks – and more than a touch of mellow Radiohead. Overall, a truly nice bunch of songs (these Chicago guys can write songs), but no originality strikes at any point. So what? They can get some play anyway. Favorites (order of preference) – 2, 6, 9, 1.
1. Mid tempo, nice synth bridge. 2. This could have been a Radiohead track. Slow, accompanied by acoustic strumming, violins, flutes. Blends into track 3. 3. Mid tempo soft acoustic song. Nice little electric guitar solo, picks up tempo. 4. Acoustic, strumming, piano, soft, rolling cymbals on chorus, nice electric guitar bridge, ends with very soft, extended keyboard notes (1:30 minutes before the track’s end!). 5. Sparsier vocals on this track, slow-mid tempo. 6. Slow/mid tempo instrumental, cute acoustic solo Nick Drake style, builds up with soft drumming. Nice and delicate track. 7. Mid/high tempo. Reminiscent of a few Doves tracks. 8. Quiet instrumental, piano, drum machine enters mid-track. Distorted guitar pick up theme. Nice night-time background music. Smooth transition makes it into intro to track 9. 9. Sad, melancholic. Slow/mid tempo. 10. More melancholia, with acoustic guitar and violin this time. 11. Think Elliot Smith’s Pictures of Me.
