Hailing from Oslo, Norway, the Lovethugs (what a name?) are RETRO PSYCH-POP. 60s Brit psych verse (think early Bowie) and Kinks-que vocal melodies and choruses. Psych guitar riffs. Elusive guitar dissonance, angularity and repetition carry remote Sonic Youth references. The band can really do without the super-annoying guitar solos. This CD starts great but the band doesn’t deliver to its full potential. If these guys lay off the guitar solos and become more creative vocally-wise, they will be just awesome! Play with the Cuts and bands of the “new old pyshe” pop sound. Good stuff.
PLAY: 1, 7, 6, 5, 10, 3
1. Love this. Awesome. Mid tempo. Catchy! The Kinks, 60s Brit psych.
2. Playful. Pop chorus. Guitar leads range from catchy to annoying.
3. Melodic attacks on vocals borrow from the Beatles. Early Bowiesh lyrics.
4. Upbeat. Heavy guitar/bass.
5. Medium tempo. Nostalgic. Emotional. Nice chorus and synth.
6. Epic track. This rocks. Got punk edge and psych playfulness. This funky instrument’s called Mardangerfiddle and sounds great. If only those annoying solos did not appear in the track.
7. Nice key and guitar work
8. Heavy guitar/bass. Same formula though. Nice chimes/bells.
9. Spacey folk psyche tune. More bells.
10. Nice lyrics. Playful and grungy guitars
