One of the coolest assortments of world “club” music I’ve heard in a long time. The tracks featured here cover a wide spectrum of music, representing a variety of genres, moods, and languages; each one is exquisitely crafted and utterly hip. Pick a style, then play away.
Track 1: Catchy, upbeat, bossa-nova pop. Lilting fem. vox (Brazilian + English).
Track 2: Afrobeats mixed with hiphop/R&B rhtyhms. Male + fem vox., interesting lyrics (English).
Track 3: Lovely Middle-eatern melody with some fine tabla, violin, and spanish guitar. Tempo changes from mid to fast, then back to mid and finally slow as the track progresses (Instrumental).
Track 4: Classical South Indian piece mixed expertly by SF dj Chebi I Sabbah. Fabulous, multilayered percussion. Brief., traditional chanting at 2:30 & 4:25.
Track 5: Beautiful guitar and soft, dreamy fem vox by raspy-voiced Argentinian singer. Catchy and very chilled out.
Track 6: Techno-ish track with heavy tropical percussion; Cool, meditative fem vox. (Brazilian)
Track 7: Very very dancey. Fabulous flamenco.
Track 8: Opens with child vox, then heavy
electronic percussion. Pakistani pop.
Track 9: Slow tempo ballad with grave, melodramatic feel; Fem. vox. The liner notes call the singer the “Madonna of Uzbekistan”. Easy to see why.
Track 10: French carnival pastiche from street theatre group Lo'Jo. Colorful, circusy number with growling male vox and a bunch of offbeat instruments.
Track 11: Reggae with electronic sendup.
