Myotonia – Myotonia (self-released)
Metalcore. Local band (from Oakland), this seems to be a self-produced demo of sorts. Great quality recording, great performances, a lot of math-y influences, but without getting wacky or becoming derivative, and an overall raw and mean sound that I really like.
Tracks:
1) Starts with open string picking, some soft drumming, and then launches into heavy winding riffs.
2) Breakdown-ish, syncopated riffing/drumming with some manic screaming that eventually transforms into seriously classic hardcore.
3) Starts clean, with distorted vocal samples, and then becomes eerily melodic with some really heavy breakdowns. Reminds me of Nora. Awesome song!
4) More metal, with some intricate drum patterns, and then becomes another mosh-starter. Killer!
5) Another open-string picking opening that becomes chaotic and messy, but this stands out for its metal-as-fuck riffs. FCCs in the mid-section spoken-word sample.
