I haven’t music from these dogs in a long time. The last full-length I heard “Too Dark Park” was when they were starting to sound like a Cure tribute band.
However, flash foward to 2004 and they’re back to the electro-EBM aspects. Nothing all that hard & heavy much less industrial like their 1989 masterwork “Rabies” on here but that’s not to say that this doesn’t have it’s moments.
((1)) Some ok repetivie riffing (or sampled rififng) and the beats are quite good but damn the vocals are thrown on top & their ultra-annoying redundant lines “just lookin’ for somethin’” repeated at least 30 times just bombs miserably.
(2) This beat’s actually pretty bad but the guitars are okbut once again the reduancies are just annoying as are the semi-rapped vocals. This sounds more like some new band that belongs on the side stage some Marylin Manson freakshow tour, than the Skinny Puppy.
(((3))) Bouncy beats & some good groove. This would go down well in the clubs. A mix of electro-EBM and gothic.
(((4))) Slow, twisted vocals manipulated and references the Beatles “Stawberry Fields” for a lyric line or two. Weird but interesting.
(((5))) Slow ambient/chill tempo which progressively gets louder and more EBM-styled. Another that can get ‘cha moving or at least when the cute goth girl is doing the “spell casting” dance next to you. A bit closer to their older material in some places, too.
((((6)))) Dreary dark ambient keys mixed with gothic space rock? Slowly almost. Some interesting lyrics about the Iraq “war” as well. Overall a bit of a Legendary Pink Dots influenced.
(((7))) Slightly tracey/EBM sounds. Oy vey! This one has “European Club Hit” written all over it Expect the bleak, anti-war lyrics don’t really make for good “happy estasy slave” music.
((8)) Weird, slow & dragging along. Reminicent of Missing Person’s “Destination Unknown” more than anything.
((9)) Nice etheral/gothic keyboards then twisted glitched out EBM & electro-industrial some kind of lame “speak & spell” vocal stylings than pretty much ruin this one. Covenant (Swedish EBM band not the Norwegian goofball metal dudes) meets Art Of Noise? (FCC 3:08 “fucked up”)
((10)) Hey it’s The Chipmunks go electro-industrial!? Oh wait, it just normalized itself...some hard EBM beats & a lot of that Euro-electro gloss but generally pretty good with a nice mix of shifting vocal lines (despite their often machine-like qualities).
