Relaxing session in the usual ECM vein, this time led by acoustic or soft electric guitar, accompanied by trumpet and bass clarinet. Trumpet in particular adds an icy air to the session. As with many ECM sessions, the group keeps that mellow feel even as they dive into some adventurous soloing.
Mostly enjoyable stuff with room to explore. The acoustic numbers start a bit too much like HGTV background music, especially 1 and 2.
Young is Norweigan, born in Lillehammer, and this is his first CD.
1- Pastoral acoustic guitar, relaxing horns
2- Fairly slow and swinging
3- Slow and dour
4- Stumbly, and slowly brash
5- Midtempo, gentle, with some nice guitar
6- Nice two-horn improvising, tones of '60s jazz clubs under a slow facade
7- Midtempo; strong melodic lines
8- A corny/trite new age turn, meant to be melodic and uplifting
9- Slow outro. Starts with some jazzy guitar/bass duetting
