John The Baker & The Malnourished - Fire Marshall Law (Crucial/Controlled By Plague) In case you don’t know John The Baker is the man behind the legendary recording studio/punk venus/hole-in the wall in the middle of industrial Richmond, called Burnt Ramen and this is his band. JTB & TM are a really solid mix of Dead Kennedys, Flipper and The Melvins. Lyrically and sonically it’s a testament to the true spirit of punk/hardcore - obnoxious, raw & in your face. No SPIN magazine sanitization needed here. Greg from Lana Dagales/Brainoil plays some killer bass on this one, too.
(((1))) Swaggering to mid-tempo loud & ugly punk. The vocals are kind of buried in the mix until they get to the chorus.
((((2))))) Hi-larious tune about being a poor punk on the streets on Woodstock, NY. (Where John T. Baker used to live). DKs-like rampage punk/hardcore.
(((3))) Slow, dirge sluge but totally NOT FCC friendly, sad to say.
((((4)))) Total DK’s like spazzoid punk but as above again NOT FCC friendly.
((((5)))) Heavy, sludge-core into fast tempos kind of like Flipper lots of repetition that totally works.
(((6))) Simple spiteful raw punk. Maybe if you can edit the chorus this would be “decent for airplay”.
((((7)))) Really awesome drumming and bass. Slow ugly Flipper/Fang/Melvins kinda thing. Fucked up brilliance for sure!
