Jello Biafra (the intelligent voice behind the Dead Kennedys, Lard, solo spoken word etc) turns up singing lead with The Melvins of all things, who unabashedly demonstrate their roots in cock rock and classic rockisms. And it sounds good, oh so good, like only the Melvins can make basic rock/punk sound, the way they influenced a young Cobain to follow the white light, white heat, of rock and FUCKING roll… ahem. Well, yes, this is basic rock and roll with uber intelligent lyrics by Jello Biafra, covering all the issues of the day, from SUV to nuclear to right wing Christian proliferation. Did I say this is good? Really good???! Dedicated to Wesley Willis to top it off.
1) FCC “titties. 2/4 punky turns basic rock, fairly straightforward “rock”
2) driving rock, fear is good for the economy, bad for drugs, thanks ossama bin laden!…
3) cock rock ultimate ode to the SUV, play this one unless you drive one
4) spy jazz upbeat jazz/rock with intelligent commentary on nuclear proliferation and Iraq/middle east
5) upbeat rock, old school punk/metal roots, with commentary about airport screeners, searchers
6) head nodding rock with great commentary on religious fucking nuts, ashcrack, you know the drill…
7) real basic 70’s rock spirit, Jello gets confessional, okay…
8) some ripping music (finally!), kick ass, a call to prank, feels like they finally break out for the last song, yay
