The cover of this album is a giant punch in the face to your local Young Republicans chapter. Picture this: the first WTC tower burning as Rudi Guliani remote controls the plane about crash into the 2nd tower while DIck Cheney holds what looks like a credit card and GW pumps flaming gas from a Haliburton pump. (And wait ‘til they see the lyrics insert!) These kids might be deemed “ignorant crusties” but they’re defintely dedicated and they mean every bit of what they say. Musically this is a mixed bag. It’s bit of melodic hardcore, punk, ska, folk and even a black metal intro (?!). There’s some serious lyrical venom going here throughout the genre hopping. The vocals sound like an odd mix of H.R. of Bad Brains and Blaine from the Accüsed and Fat Mike.
((((1)))) Really well-done black metal intro which turns later into a melodic yet pissed off punk, anti-Fear Channel tune. (FCC “fuck” in the spoken intro - 2x, “shit”, 2x in the main part)
(((2))) Melodic pop with loud guitars then Rancid-like ska mixed up odd epic metallish bits and a lot of that super-melodic punk Fat Records style catchy but not quite “there” (and TOO MANY FCCs!)
(((((3)))) Weird AC/DC meets the Replacements riff, then catchy strummy melodic punk kinda like NOFX’s 1 song album/epic. Great sample about capitalism & surplus population
(((4))) What is this Old Skull unplugged? “Acoustic intro with tons of FCCs. Then uppity ska and fast punk with again tons of FCCs.
(((5))) Never mind that it starts kinda like a fuckin’ Jimmy Eat Turd tune but this features some good catchy punk and a killer samples at 1:39 and 1:02. No audible FCCs.
(((6))) Fast to mid-tempo & well-done melodic punk dealing with existence and death.
(((7))) Strummy indie pop with distant vocals into pretty decent ska & punk with occasionally violin thrown in.
(((8))) Anti-cop sample into melodic anti-cop punk tune with a mix of clean and raw vocals.
(((9))) Indie rock intro with slow punkish sound and nasal raw vox. A crusty punk’s anthem? (Or at least the one’s who don’t think L.o.C. has “sold out”)
((10)) Fast, sarcastic & kinda “there” melodic punk/h.c.
((((11)))) Slow, folk number that’s really done well. Totally bleak theme, too.
(((12))) Indie sounding intro then epic hardcore/punk all about our current state here in the U.$.A. (FCC’s “shit” 1x “fucking grave” 2x
(((((13))))) Bass & sad violin intro, then raw winding heavy epic hardcore (like Remains Of The Day, Dystopia, Tragedy, et. al.). Really nice dark folk strumming and piano playing in the last 3+ minutes. I just wish most of the album was this intense.
