Wow!! Excellent collection of Monoshock’s 7”, comps, demo tape, and unreleased tracks 1989-95. This is some primo balls out wacked psyche noise garage out of Oakland. This is the real deal insane garage, what Estrus strived for, what the Strokes watered down, added milk and sugar to and made millions with. Then theres a huge element of this that is precisely what Comets on Fire are getting blown by the press for these days: full on noise effects almost burying the rock, echoplex feedback and distortion. Almost ridiculous that this band didn’t get more recognition at the time. All these recordings are fittingly low-fi, lending a live feel if they are live already. Awesome!
1) balls out garage rawkin
2) slightly heavier head nod
3) stoney feel to the garage, 12 bar progression
4) slower, swingy, nice noise in there
5) rocking and rolling, buried keys in there
6) poppier feel, melodic vocs and chords, good guitar tone, turns crazy as shit
7) FCCs (too bad)
8) no music but noise under strange spoken word, layers of dialog
9) upbeat rawking garage, man, w/ echoey vocs
10) almost pop flare, melodic rock “saw you at the Hawkwind show”
11) pop sense but still noisy as fuck
12) upbeat driving madness, instrumental, noisy
13) noisy bashout, brief
14) crazy noisy bashout, Lightning Bolt, Comets on Fire
15) spacier, psyche rock jam
16) brief bashout instrumental
17) low fi sludgey rock, long jam
