(That's "Live at CMU Park Library Auditorium.")
Another great free-jazz sesssion teaming Detroit saxophonist Faruq Z. Bey -- who's been blowing free jazz since the '70s -- with the Northwoods Improvisers. The band has a great sound, fronted by three horns, adding vibes/marimba for a cool sound.
Great stuff, deeply rooted in the jazz tradition, well informed by '60s innovations. Lots of high-energy soloing, with plenty of tracks starting in a quiet, meditative mode to warm you up. A can't-miss session.
1- Fast and exciting, after a two-minute quiet intro.
2- Energetic piece, a midtempo start and fast ending. Good start/stop point around -9:00
3- Slow, drifting
4- Reverent, grand, slow sax over spritely marimba theme. Like a joyous jazz ceremonial walk. Very cool vibes solo. Slow sax intro starts it.
5- Mid/fast. Fun, cascading theme.
6- Manic, crazy, messy. Big fun!
