Clever, pretty, and very listenable classical solo piano music. Post-romantic, post-impressionist, with little nods to ragtime and silent movie soundtracks. Resolutely melodic, without pretenses. Instead of the usual blather about how clever the performer is, the liner notes are an allegory about the typists P and Q.
1))) Solo piano. Opens with dense pseudo-fugue, then cheerful silent-movie soundtrack stuff. Pretty and humorous.
2)) Fast, short and busy. Impressionist+ragtime.
3)) Hints of modern compositional technique, but still tonal. Meanders between cheerful and apprehensive.
4))) Lovely, gently disturbed waltz that can’t get itself together.
5))) Fast, mostly cheerful. Meanders, then freaks out about half way through. Snottily ornate ending. ~10 s silence at end
6)) Humorous and ornate. Cross between Ravel and Brahms. Keeps looping back on itself.
7) Paranoid Ravel. A little disjointed.
8)) Dark, dense fugue. More cerebral, but still tonal.
9))) Tries to be a pleasant dance number, but falls apart into bickering melodic fragments.
10)) Like Brahms. Less grumpy, less profound.
11)) Sweeping, busy, and disorganized.
12))) 17 min. Similar to the other tracks, but longer.
