Birdbrain – I Fly (Persian Cardinal)
Ready for something unique? This is a brass trio (tenor and alto sax and trombone), playing avant pop with a vocalist. Despite the setup, this is not jazz and really feels like pop rock, even if there aren’t drums or a guitar. Sometimes they swing a little, sometimes they play riffs, sometimes sound effects come out of nowhere and she often sings pretty in a Dagmar Krauss sort of way. The members are former or current members of The Dancing Cigarettes, The North Brooklyn Sound Collective, God Is My Co-Pilot, etc.
**1. Repetitive, angular riff and there. There is a tiny bit of percussion on this track, mostly cymbal playing.
2. More playful and a bit odd. Again the brass play a repeated riff.
**3. Slower riff with a small swing.
4. Bird sounds, longer track, and more drawn out notes.
5. More spoken style singing, like an early rock-n-roll song but again without drums or guitar.
**6. Such a strange vocal line, borderline annoying.
7. More demented with some sort of effect on her vocals.
**8. Upbeat with a avant jazz feel and more active trombone.
9. The only track were the horn players go off and improvise.
10. Keyboards!
OK stuff. -mph
