Mates of State "All Day" – The most adorable pop duo are back at it again with a 4-song EP. Their vocal harmonies and unique organ phrasing are immediately identifiable and do not disappoint. Lyrics as usual don't always make sense on their own but work so well with the music as a whole. The three originals are fun and beautiful and the Bowie cover is just too cute. If you liked their old stuff you'll enjoy this as well. Just sit back and drink in those gorgeous vocal harmonies. Isn't it delicious!?!
My Picks: 1, 2
Katie P. 1/31/05
1)Pulsing organ with “da-da-da” vocals. More keyboards and drums come in with layers of harmonies on vocals. Uptempo and happy feeling. Mostly male leads with female backups until about half through when it slows a bit and female takes lead. Oh god are these great vocal harmonies!!!
2)Sweet uptempo that's a bit jerky at times and then falls into straight walking tempo. Fun and playful organ. Wow, even some guitar in here!
3)Slower piano, no drums. Muted/distorted male vocals eventually gives way to clean female vocals. A little sad and quiet. Drums finally come in near the end.
4)David Bowie cover. Starts with spacey noises and bloops on the organ. Falls into a laid-back midtempo groove. Nice handclaps. So cute and fun!
