New theme album by Lemon Jelly-- all tracks are build up around samples and they definitely do a good job of taking the samples in new and interesting directions from their original contexts. This is a very guitar based album and could really be played on many types of shows; the sound is very organic and rarely “electronic”. Half the tracks seem really mellow and warm and the other half are harsh and electronic. In general Lemon Jelly is known for their chill-out tracks though and they definitely do a better job on those cuts here.
Play: 3, 7
1)20 intro of a guy trying to remember a date. 2) Fast rocking industrial groove. Lots of electric guitar and looped vocals. 3) Beautiful smooth acoustic guitar over drum kicks. Very layed back almost folky feel. 4) Trip-hop type beat with pulsing synths and an echo-y sample of “don’t stop now”. Trick builds and takes on a warmer and warmer sound. 5) Very warm rich sound: lots of acoustic guitar lines built up around a synth melody and happy r&b beat. 6) Harsh repetitive cut. Metal meets electronica. 7) Sounds the most like classic Lemon Jelly. Funky tripped-up beats with funky scratch noises and samples mixed in. The guitar sample gives it a very mellow chilled out vibe. 8) Really silly track about a train which lemon jelly has chosen to mix with a very slow D&B beat. 9) Monotonous track with just a drum beat and thin sample of a guy saying “a man like me”. Probably the weakest on the disc. 10) Soft pulsing beat ovevrlayed with various sampled vocals. Track gets very quiet, then loud again, then fades out.
