Abstract acoustic guitar paired with South African legend Louis Moholo on various percussion.
The quick-and-obvious comparison on guitar is Derek Bailey, but Smith's style rings more melodically to me, less crunchy than Bailey, although it's still way out there.
Overall tone is subdued, even when Smith plays his way into a frenzy.
1- Early on, rapid drum patter and quiet supporting guitar. After 7 minutes, a more sparse but fast, tumbling jam develops.
2- Fast short segment with nice drumming
3- Quick hit (90 seconds), active
4- Guitar monologue, often frenzied, with deep ominous timpani. Moholo kicks in with fast hand drums around -5:00, very nice
5- A nice jam, stressing mid-intensity drums. Fast pitter-patter on the toms. Gentle guitar and music box to start.
6- Some really cool drumming. 2nd half features guitar over quiet fast snare work.
7- Twangy fast monochrome, ominous drums
