Marc Dresser / Denman Maroney – Time Changes
Quartet led by longtime collaborators Dresser on violin and Maroney on prepared “hyper” piano. The compositions have their roots in traditional jazz idioms, but end up being warped by tweaking the tempos and splitting melodies into fragments. Michael Sarin on the drums does an excellent job of keeping all this together and Alexandra Montano sings in an operatic wordless style.
1. Loungey wordless vocals over angular fluctuating tempo
**2. Odd deft counterpoint
3. Driving abstract patterns
4. Jaunty voice followed by nice solos
5. Slow, abstract start builds to jazzy swing
6. Quiet, mellow island groove with vocals
*7. Fragments of piano melody
8. Slow, creeping abstract
9. A sort of weighty off-balance dance
10. Fluttering, twirling vocals
*11. Light bass with skittering prepared piano
