Oh snap!!!
Luke Vibert (a.k.a. Wagon Christ) is back with some kickass old-school acid. This is a collection of three 12''s released in 2000, 2002, and 2005. The main concept here is acid – a style known for sick warble-y analogue synth (generally Roland 303), set to funky beats, sometimes downtempo, sometimes dance-y, sometimes whimsical. Vibert is one of the pioneers of the sound, so this is superb stuff from the master himself. Like most Vibert, a lot of this has a distinctive soundtrack-ish quality.
Do not pass this up! Vibert is an electronica god. One of the top electronica releases of the summer!
Favorites:
Track 8 is some of the best dance/acid I’ve heard in a long time. Also try 12.
... And try Track 5 for top-notch trip-hop.
– Captain Dee, June 2005
1. Downtempo beat, meandering bass, silly acid warbles all over the place. (4;41)
*2. Deep analogue synth, fast funky pace. Suggestive strings riff. Imagine
acid-ifying a secret agent soundtrack. (4:23)
*3. Very sci-fi-ish. Beepy melodies, uptempo beat, futuristic blips and squeaks. Later deep synth kicks in with extra drums. Dance party on a space station! (4:34)
*4. Suspenseful opening turns into head-nodding beat and jazz club feel with nice combo of keys, bass and echo-y flute. Sleak, classy – nice! (6:58)
**5. Ill hip-hop stylings, vocal samples, smooth ambience, Fucking sick! (3:25)
6. This one is called "Analord" for a reason – old-school early 90’s AFX (Aphex Twin) acid leanings. Mid-tempo, but dancey. (4:54)
7. Slow, downtempo feel. "Lover’s Acid" is an apt title. (5:12)
***8. Booty-shaking dancefloor killer!! Wicked acid, devil-ish piano, fun vocal sample. Yes, I love it!! This is as good as acid gets. (3:43)
*9. Dance-y, acid synths everywhere. Old-school beat. Later, catchy synth melody. I feel like I’m inside a computer. (5:27)
10. More mid-tempo, laser beam-ish acid with quiet spooky melodies. (3:43)
11. Silly, fast acid bounces along with tweaked effects. (4:41)
**12. Uptempo jazzy drums, acid aesthetic, kinda cartoon-ish. Whimsical vocal samples. Fun, funky stuff! (6:54)
