A compilation of artists that seems to want to please fans of the ilk of Bonnie Raitt, Tom Petty, Wilco, and Springsteen judging by the tracks they chose to start with. Singer songwriter folk, roots rock centered mostly, the best songs come at about track 7 where you find some great café balladeers and good alt.country/country type stuff. This is a cd released by a Portland area community radio station that smacks of AAA, kfog but contains serious gems (see highlights below). Second CD has live tracks recorded in-studio by some national acts but should be avoided like the plague.
Greetings from Area Code 207
1) nick lowe’ish guitar pop
2) acoustic folk rock
3) r&b flavored funky rock, female vocs
4) upbeat roots rock, a la Tom Petty
5) mid paced reflective roots ballad rock
6) roots rock, female vocs, white girl blues
7) café acoustic guitar/vocals song, honest feel
8) traditional rootsy r&b garage, late 50’s race music, good shit
9) quite adept and pleasant alt.country in the spirit of good wilco et al
10) folk acoustic ballad storytelling, western feel
11) wow, this is some seriously beautiful stuff: a slow Low-like plod and male/female voc duel vocs, eerie synth tone under acoustic guitar arpeggios (why didn’t they make this the first track?!)
12) Country Western song, traditional feel from the school of George Jones and Buck Owens
13) rootsy feel, dark, Slim Cessna or Waits feel
14) mountain music, good Appalachian front porch ballad
15) dark exotic western tango feel with slow part in middle
16) western roots rock version of Beatles classic
17) female folkie
18) new country feel
19) rootsy feeling pop rock
20) “blues” rock bar-band feel with the Hammond etc
20) slow-core mopey feel, nice non-slick subdued production
Greetings from “Studio Z”
1) solo folk
2) folksy with piano
3) piano+vocs, icky vocals
4) yikes, these vocals couldn’t be any more ass-kissing if they tried
5) upbeat acoustic
6) I aint buying these vocals either
7) Barenaked Ladies, upbeat bluegrassy feel, yawn
8) folk, yawn
9) Cowboy Junkies: folk ballad, quite pretty acoustic guitar+vocals, okay play this one if you must as its really good
