Its all in the rhythm, and the ladies and men of Ladytron dish out hip grinding head nodding ready-to-fuck beats and sensibilities no matter what their current instrumentation is. In the past they got lumped in with electroclash, but on this new release I hear real sounding drums mixed in with their use of synths and sequencers and atmospheric vocs. The electro remains, and some tracks are pure electropop concoctions. However the sheer unabashed joy that Stereolab brought to the world with driving electrorock songs like John Cage Bubblegum back in 1992 come to mind more than once on this cd. Female accented vocals, but not indulgent trite or exploited, lush atmospheres, and buzzy moments are all included. A worthy addition to their catalog for sure. The presence of a lot of yellow below is a testament to the quality (I can almost say “choose any track”).
1) driving and lush electrock that reminds me of early Stereolab, Neu
2) techno near house feel
3) simple electropop, dark feel
4) dark electropop
5) epic, with their trademark deep bass synth, slow and mindful beat a la old Ultravox, instrumental
6) kick ass fun danceable beat, minor toned
7) cool rock beat, echoey vocs and a guitar riff right out of the My Bloody Valentine fake book
8) cool backbeat and swirling attacking sounds, percussion (I’d highlight this one too)
9) cuter chiller pop feel
10) almost heavy rock beat, nice! With epic hooky chorus coming soon to a commercial radio station soon near you if there was any common sense in the corporate world
11) chill and dark, with cool dark turnaround/bridge
12) another rock’ish track with an epic feel to the melody, just plain dreamy
13) a really pretty epic soundtrackish piece
14) nine minutes of nothing, dead air…why?
