Karl Blau’s Kelp! Project is a monthly subscription CD-R series in which if you join you receive a new CD every month assembled by Karl. Sometimes it is a complete Karl Blau record, other times it is a collection of various artists and other times its spoken word pieces and field recordings. All of his packages are beautifully handmade, sewn and stuck together, A true gift every month (He was nice enough to donate one a month to KZSU because, well I asked). This CD Kelp! 11 finds Karl rearranging the classic Microphones record “It was hot so we stayed in the water (which is one of my favs), in his own way but yet very Phil-like. A creative ensemble featuring Karl, Adrian Orange (Thanksgiving), Nate Ashley and even Phil Elvrum himself. Karl who was a member of the Microphones on the original recording (In fact there is a song on the record named after him) is a veteran of the K-records & Know-Yr-Own scene. Largely Lo-Fi vocal pieces w/ multi-instrumentation like percussion (A microphone signature), electronics and guitar. Truly creative and beautiful music!

**(4:07) Large ensemble vocal piece. Beautiful pop melodies. The lion sleeps tonight!
**(2:31) Fast piano droning and percussion. Kinda rockin w/o drums. The electro beat and harmonium melody take hold. Awesome and beautiful!
*(12:04) Long piece. Solo choral intro. Electro beat takes hold. Gets fuzzy and goes through tweeky movements. Low bass drones trip out. Very odd but beautiful.
**(2:13) Here’s the Karl Blau track. Has an old R&B feel. Very songlike. Deep and Waltzy. Steady beat and beautiful singing. A Standout track
**(3:13) Pulsy disco in the background. Odd beat and warm vocals. Very cool
**(2:20) Swirly backwards vocals. Waltzy slow beat w/ cool horns and guitar. Instrumental.
**(4:03) Straight vocals, slow with snare pulses. A great song!
*(3:37) Cool percussion. Fuzzy acoustic guitar. Sing-songy
*(1:28) Bonus track. weird marimba recorded at the beach?
