Album Review
Wicked Child

Dark atmospheric/cinematic electronica, all instrumental. Like the score for a sci-fi/suspense movie or stealth video game. If the Resident Evil movie had asked Murcof to write the score, it might've been worth seeing. They're all very cinematic, so much so that they made me picture specific scenes from a generic movie, which is not something I normally do.
The album carries a suspenseful weight -- I was actually on edge while listening to it all the way through. The tracks and slow and reserved. Lots of atmospherics, rain noises, violins, the low notes of a grand piano. One problem is that these tracks all sound & feel very similar, from the instrumentation to the length and structure. Picks: 2, 6. FCC Clean.
-David Blackman (Wicked Child)
1) Ominous track that starts dark, gets more energetic and then ends even more ominous than it started. Atmospherics, piano, violin, drum machine. (8:01)
***2) More paranoid version of track 1. Fast-paced glitch beat at 5:40. 45s of near-silence at end. (7:17)
*3) A temporary respite from the action. Atmospherics and a haunting beat. A dark piano. Possibly hopeful ending, kettle drum heard through static. (2:26)
4) Distant, gaining footsteps down a long corridor, dramatic strings, then an opening up. Bird noises that almost sound like mocking laughter. Slow for a while. Scratchy/glitchy by 7:00. Ending is 30s of beeping noises. (8:21)
5) First 15s are nearly silent. Scary orchestral build-up. Last 12s are silence. (2:12)
***6) Glitchy skittering beats & squeaks combined with album's atmospherics. Has a slow moving feel. Mellows to bells halfway through. Beat ends at 8:00, orchestral outro. (9:07)
7) More of the same, plodding, short. (1:31)
8) Atmospherics until sudden action explosion at 1:40. Skiffle beat. More piano on this track. Most active track, feels like "Run! Gotta get out of here!" (8:30)
*9) Another restrained long hallway/looking around the scientist's lair. More menacing take on track 4. Lots of interesting noises. (7:30)
