Contemporary Theremin works, avante classical compositions in the progressive vein of the 30’s. Some songs with full orchestral accompaniment, some solo Theremin, some duets or chamber pieces, one is pure electronic noise, but all songs dissonant, interesting, dark and pensive at times. Kavina studied with Theremin from a young age (check the photo in the liner notes!) and is surely on her way to being synonymous with Clara Rockmore (“the queen of the theremin”, from the 20’s). Unlike Rockmore, Kavina’s style is less evocative of the human voice and explores the instrument’s unique tones and timbre. Excellent liner notes, a must for anyone not familiar with the instrument.
