Accessible piano-trio jazz with occasional horns that don't get the spotlight. Piano and bass are the lead voices here (those are the two Weller brothers, who hail from southern California.)
The CD stays within throwing distance of modern conventions, with lots of rich, breezy piano chords and brisk upbeat tempos; tracks 8 and 10 are particularly interesting. And then sometimes they just drop all that and do out-there improvs, usually keeping in "normal" jazz contexts but letting themselves get a bit weird. (4,6,9,11).
1- Breezy mid/fast, soaring feel w/horns
2- Upbeat, lightly funky step w/sax
3- Soft, mellow midtempo. Gentle.
4- Piano/bass doodles, fast and edgy
5- Mid/fast brisk free-boppy feel. Happy.
6- 47-second blip; casual walking bass
7- Mellow, soft, mid/fast
8- Mid/fast. Breezy intensity
9- Soprano sax wanderings; sparse abstract tickles
10- Cool fast piano trio, strong pace & rich minor key
11- Another piano/bass doodle, starts sparse but gets fast
12- Midtempo, floaty, wistful
