The Indian musician who brought the music of India and the sitar to the World. The notes have great info. on the sitar, the music and the performances
CD #1
***1: 12:31 1992 recording, a tribute to film maker Satyajit Ray, melody from film Panther Panchali (1955) Nice track, no long warm up/introduction (alaap) gets right to the sitar & tabla. Nice short track for a sound from India
****2: 23:04 short alaap & Jhala ( where the rhythm emerges) @ 7:40 tabla kicks in big time. Great tabla/sitar groove.
****3: 22:21 theme from film "Gandhi" duet with Ustad Ali Khan on sarod
4: 5:52 an excerpt featuring two dance styles Kathak (North) & Bharatnatyam ( South India) choral & percussive style vocal.
5: 3:27 female vocal, from 1961 film.
CD #2
