SIMON JOYNER – “Beautiful Losers” CD (JagJaguwar)
A collection of singles and comp tracks from this lofi singer songwriter. He often keeps the pace slow and the songs simple with the lyrics being the center of attention. Sometimes anti-folk sounding. Reminds me a bit of early THE MOUNTAIN GOATS or VIC CHESTNUT.
1. Slightly country in a RICHARD BUCKNER sort of way.
**2. Violin, drums and concertina to go along with his guitar.
**3. Faster with fast finger picking.
**4. Sounds like it’s recorded on a box with his voice not even as loud as the violin. Anti-folk sounding. The violin is either out of tune or poorly played. Fine line between a good song and awful.
5. Quiet and simple.
6. More aggressive strumming and another anti-folk type track.
7. Slow and sad. Drums.
8. Slow with organ and brushed drums.
9. Lofi.
10. Slightly country.
11. More out of tune violin. He sounds like he just woke up.
**12. Lofi, homemade sounding percussion. Reminds me of ROGER MANNING.
14. Slow strum.
15. Lofi, out of tune singing and simple guitar.
16. Brushed drums and rambling lyrics.
17. Reference to Achilles Heel and track about ex-military.
18. Slow.
19. Electric guitar and drums. Noisy and lofi rock.
21. Catchy, poppy with organ and drums.
Good stuff -mph
