Arguably classical, these are flute pieces in solos and duets with other instruments, often using graphical scores, a John Cage kind of device. (Players draw cues from hand-drawn grids and decks of cards, for example.)
Burr's flute is the common thread to all tracks. There's a chamber/classical feel to the whole thing, but tracks are often playful, and #3 and #4 certainly have spots that pass for jazz, albeit studious jazz.
1- Solo flute, perky. Slower second half.
2- With bassoon: Slow, pleasant. Abstract flow of notes.
3- Fast-paced leapfrogging flute and clarinet. Slower middle. Surreal clicky sounds, then back to normal for the end.
4- Flute/drums, the longest piece, at 16 minutes. Fast but sparse: Quick doodles and blank spaces. Pulls into a steady jazzy beat after the halfway point, then Eastern mysticism.
5- Gets into a sinewy, tribal-beat slow chant. With prepared bass, a percussive sound. Quiet start.
6- Fast modern-classical sound, w/bassoon. Loud breaths in the last couple minutes.
7- Aggressive flute with vocalized grunting/singing added.
