Marimba music from Colombia’s Pacific region. It’s an African-style marimba w/24-keys played by 2 musicians at a time. Also including bass drum, wooden drums, and seed-filled bamboo tubes. The basic sound is a marimba background w/percussion and call/response vocals; mostly mid/uptempo. Read the informative notes. Sadly 2 members of the band were killed shortly after this CD was recorded. Very interesting stuff, very “real” and nicely unpolished.
1. Relaxed call/response w/fem. lead & a sing-songy feeling.
*2. A nice bounce w/female chorus & tripping percussion.
3. Bright w/a happy sound.
4. Good marimba/perc. Soaring vox. Up/mid.
*5. Midtempo, fem vox, nicely bouncy perc.
*6. Nice example of this vocal style w/solid midtempo perc.
7. Women’s chorus w/yodels & bare hint of marimba. Slow.
*8. Bright, upbeat w/a bigger sound & lots of shaking/percus/vox.
9. Fast and toe-tapping w/good female vocals..
10. Soaring male vox, busy drums. Up/midtempo. Gets busy..
*11. Cool midtempo song of praise to Saint Anthony.
12. Uptempo marimba, female chorus. Gets faster.
