Classic folk music from Colombia. Cumbia, puya, gaita corrida and other songs (read the notes for more info). Great stuff. The ensemble consists of two flutes (gaitas), a maraca, three drums, and a singer. There is a great similarity of sound to all tracks, but it’s universally lively, well played, and all tracks are worth a listen.
*1. Midtempo cumbia, a good introduction to their sound.
*2. A bouncy, instrumental puya. Too short.
*3. Soaring vox, call-response, claps, percussion. Mid/uptempo.
4. Interesting, whining flute & drums. Uptempo instrumental.
5. Wailing a capella work song w/powerful, almost haunting vocals.
6. Five gaitas in a birdsong-like round w/maracas. Midtempo.
7. Drums, maracas, flutes, vox. A midtempo porro.
8. Fast w/high-pitched flute, and lots of perc. Instrumental.
9. Melodic, midtempo porro with good use of chorus.
*10. Fast blend of percussion & flutes. Driving & crazy.
*11. Midtempo cumbia for Toto la Momposina.
12. Mid/uptempo instrumental w/dueling flutes & percussion.
13. Applause, then solo voice. Only 37 seconds, can lead into14.
14. Midtempo and kind of restrained instrumental.
