Sex Mob - Sexotica
Half electronic, half Sex Mob tribute to Martin Denny, king of space-age bachelor pad music. On paper, this is an excellent disc.. but instead of tweaking the sound of the band with a few effects, Goodandevil buries them in the mix and flattens out all the stuff that makes the Sex Mob good (blaring horns, elastic sense of time, dramatic dynamic range) into bland 4/4 time with the subtlety of a 3-year old working in finger paint. He's trying to get a Tipsy sound, but his joyless treatment of the material completely misses the mischevious sense of fun which separates Denny's music from all the saccharine pap that came out of the lounge era.
After all that, I suppose it's a decent entry in the Blue Series (in which quality seems to have plummeted off a cliff recently), but it's not really a Sex Mob disc. Tracks 2, 3, 7 and 9 are the better ones.
