Elan – Together as One (Kingsbury/Interscope)
Reviewed by Sadie O., 8/17/06
Dancehall with a bit of roots Reggae – killer production and Marleyesque vocal delivery, but tending towards commercial sound and too many love songs….
No FCCs, although track 4 is pretty suggestive. I like 1 and 11.
1. ***midtempo roots rock reggae with horns and syndrum, a bit of Latin flava. Shoutouts to Yerushalayim and peace.
2. **upbeat dance groove with steel drum, toast by Assassin. Quite commercial, but admittedly killer production.
3. **downbeat midtempo lover’s rock, diatribe about disrespect.
4. **somewhat downtempo dance beat. Great (rather Euro-nightclubby) sound, rather suggestive lyrically.
5. *Acoustic mellow groove, pretty love song, Marley-esque vocals. Totally 70’s rock guitar break – kinda funny, actually…
6. *downtempo bump, love song duet with Gwen Stefani.
7. ***Cute choral intro, slightly downtempo roots rock bubble, very sweet.
8. **midtempo upbeat bubble, toast by Cutty Ranks.
9. **downtempo skank, sweet sentiment.
10. **downtempo dance groove, love duet
11. ***Slightly downtempo bloopy groove, cool lyrics/vocals.
