Reggae and dancehall singles and remixes, collected. Some will be coming out on full CDs in the fall, some apparently not. Cham is on Atlantic, Collie Buddz (from Bermuda) on VP, others I can’t find.
FCC clean. I like track 13 by Sizzla and track 14 featuring a touch of reggaeton by Nejo as well as some Marleys, but all tracks have considerable interest, especially if you care about current dancehall. The last 4 tracks are the instrumental versions of some of the riddims; most would be good for soundbeds.
1. **midtempo dancehall, electronic riddim, Cham sings solo. Interesting lyrics, repeated.
2. ***remix with an additional vocalist, another interesting story
3. **another remix of track 1, with Alicia Keys. Quite a hit right now. Starts kinda duff, but actually turns quite good.
4. ***sweet roots rock reggae about pot.
5. **minimalist drum dancehall riddim. Remix of tracks 6-9 and a couple of others all together. Works surprisingly well.
6. **rhythmic chat fits with music. Some lyrics are highly amusing.
7. **cute love song version
8. ***goofy voice, goofy lyrics, fun
9. **this remix is a police story with sirens, much more disturbing.
10. **soca dancehall, take on the Vegas ad. Nice horns and cool bass – very much a party dance song.
11. **remix of track 10, slower, not soca, probably the NY version.
12. **downbeat, bit of a smooth groove, livened by Sizzla’s lunatic vocals on serious subject.
13. ****uptempo and upbeat roots reggae groove, sweet and crazy
14. ****downtempo remix of Inner Circle hit of a couple years back with a couple of the Marley guys. Great bit of reggaeton from Nejo
15. ***more uptempo version, very roots rock reggae
16. **the instrumental version of track 15, roots rock reggae – not really dub, but a few bloops and bleeps
17. **slower and dubbier version of the Smoke track, relaxed.
18. **upbeat drum track, bit of carnival feel (inst. of tracks 5-9).
19. ***Minimalist electronic dancehall instrumental (tracks 1-3)
