Inspector – Amar O Morir (Universal Mexico)
Reviewed by Sadie O., 10/12/06
Ska Hecho en Mexico! Yay! I’m delighted to see this – Inspector is one of the most fun and least potty-mouthed Mexican ska bands. Short record, but packs more energy than you can probably handle. This shit is HOT! Caliente como Scotch Bonnet chilis!
Mostly in Spanish – I didn’t make out any FCCs. I love every track, but 3 and 8 make me so happy I could damn near wet myself.
1. 4:03 ***great running bassline intro, uptempo and energetic ska beat. Great song to run up and down the hall to.
2. 4:12 **big-ass horns upbeat pop-ska. Cheesy, but who cares?
3. 3:29 ****midtempo bouncy rockin’ ska, great bass –this ROCKS!
4. 3:47 ***midtempo super funky boss groovy. Funny Spanglish.
5. 2:35 **somewhat uptempo energetic pop rock.
6. 3:23 ***uptempo hyper-ska as only the Mexicans can do it.
7. 3:45 **uptempo ska with a slight touch of Motown
8. 3:43 ****somewhat uptempo guitar and bongo ska with spoken hipness.
9. 3:43 ***downtempo (!!) soulful Wilson Picketty groove. The guitar will break your heart, if the off-key vocals don’t…
10. 3:30 **back to uptempo ska, like they supposed to do.
11. 3:06 **absolutely manic and funny (some English lyrics).
