Various artists, avante experimentalism mostly, compiled by photographer TJ Norris from what I gather were live performances associated with art installations (don’t quote me). Artists include the obscure to the famous (e.g. Nobukazu Takemura, S.E.T.I., Illusion of Safety). Mostly very chill, avante material, interesting a beautiful (i.e. there is no power noise or distortion drone here), however two tracks would fit quite well in a dream-pop set even (1, 6). For fans of the avante, Alvin Lucier, Matmos, Eliane Radigue, etc. FCC clean. My picks: 1, 2, 4, 6
1) long fade in of distant guitar, followed by acoustic guitar juxtaposed over distortion bed, dream poppy, psychedelic
2) long very quiet creepy fade-in, old school quiet noise coming through in waves, hypnotic and very serene
3) very sparse, quiet, start, almost dead air, strange sound treatment poke through the dead air all the way through
4) layers of looped, sped up plucking lends a chiming effect throughout, with lush drones and soundscapes, noise thrown in at end
5) sparse buzzing tones swirl about
6) pretty, musical, melodic guitar and keys, very songlike and an exception to the other tracks
7) enters sparse, with high pitch, slow fade-in midway of very minimal static’y tones
8) minimal static with sparse tones, similar to previous
9) looped synth, Eno/Frippish in that sense (No Pussyfooting), builds
10) sparse ambient buzzing and static, looped near melodic strangetones, a swallowed rhythm/beat develops ever so slowly to end
11) slow quiet fade-in, industrial layers, pieces come and go, all delivered subtle and restrained, trippy
