DAUGHTERS – “Hell Songs” CD (Hydra Head)
Bombastic, noisy, discordant, heavy music that doesn’t easily fall into a genre. Vocals are clean, understandable and almost spoken instead of sung. They sound like they are trying to annoy and be hard to listen to, which I enjoy. Think someplace between AN ALBATROSS, BARKMARKET, THE LOCUST and math rock.
**1. Slow, pummeling, and reminds me a bit of JESUS LIZARD. Ends with feedback and guitar noise.
2. Discordant guitar that’s somewhat noodle-y.
**3. FCC (one fucker) Starts out sounding normal enough then burst of grindcore(!) show up. Lots of changes and stop-start moments.
4. FCC. Short math rock track.
**5. Unique and great guitar sounds. Lots of noisy parts.
6. FCC Repetitive sections.
**7. Spastic, lots of changes, call-n-response vocals, and a big bass sound.
**8. Math rock, into quiet music and cool vocals then a last burst of chaos.
**9. Long, noiser, multiple vocalists, and many parts. The song mostly ends are 4:12, there is sound for the last two minutes, it’s just very quiet.
**10. Fast and some for the guitar reminds me of MICK BARR (ORTHRELM/CROM-TECH/etc)
OK Stuff. -mph
