Solo Cuban piano. Classical, stately. Clearly carribean, but also in same mood as solo stride piano....kind of. You're not going to hear a younger person play like this. Compositions are from ~1812-present. Check the liner notes for details. Really clean playing. Deceptively austere, and nicely avoids the pedal. FCC clean.
Picks 1,2,3,4,8,10
**1-1:31) Great start. Turn-of-the-(last)-century parlor/classical feel. Abrupt trite end.
**2-0:58) Mid/fast. Spidery runs up and down the keyboard. Abrupt trite end.
**3-3:03) Slower, lazy triplety feel. Quiet, hymnal ending.
*4-2:29) Snaky mid dance. Light arpeggio ending.
5-4:40) Very slow, sad, maudlin. Jazz voicings. High, soft, plinked chord ending.
6-4:07) Slow lugubrious bass line. Abrupt ending.
7-3:35) Sad, slightly jazzy and accompanies my dinner in a fine 1940's establishment. soft, high, plinky ending.
*8-3:17) Very weepy and romantic. Occasional block hands and runs.
9-5:26) Firm, upbeat. Surprise ending.
*10-1:17) Cheerful. Sounds fun to play.
11-2:37) Broadly rolls along in a "Peanuts" kind of way.
12-3:52) Prominent syncopated bassline, sounds stereotypical. Jazz arpeggio end.
13-3:38) Mid. Very jazzy cadenza to end.
14-3:28) Dramatic and romantic.
15-4:31) Brisk beginning, settles into a moving triplety cuban feel.
16-2:15) Fast, pedaled arpeggios, parlor/Rachmaninoff style. Kinda cheesy Liberace, but who cares.
17-6:54) Blues and jazz inflected. Almost a story. Ends with abrupt slide down the keyboard.
