Jazz with electronica; not quite "nu jazz." Butch Morris brings his "conducted improvisation" to the rigid rhythms of dance music. Lots of samples, scratches, and electronic gizmo sounds populate the field; a jazz tilt is added by saxes, trumpet, and sometimes guitar. Overall accessible, lacking the abstract feel of Morris' usual conductions; for a cool effect, he sometimes moves the horns in a rhythm unconnected to the electronics (6,8). Mostly instrumental; no FCCs.
- Mid/fast, swampy, a heavy dub-like beat, some loping jazz horns
- A calm feel, with wandering horns
- Mechanically mid/fast, w/female vocal. Guitar solo and synths get disturbingly smooth-jazzy.
- Serene floating, w/ female vocal
- Snappy beat. Simple and catchy.
- Horns trip around in unsteady rhythm over a spare beat. Tricky and unhurried. Vocals later.
- (a bit of studio banter)
- Jazzy motif, grabs you right away. Midtempo, w/ horns up front the whole way. Nice straight sax solo over a guitar riff.
- Upbeat, popping, fast. Small moans of ecstacy, then vocals in a soulful vein.
- Snappy and quirky, fast. A light stomp with a sense of humor.
- Bright, fast swirl; lurking horns for a slow feel
- Deep gloopy sounds, a bit goofy
