10 Ft. Ganja Plant – Presents
Reviewed by Sadie O., 5/25/07
Rootsy and well-played Reggae, mostly dub with a few vocal tracks and a couple ska/rock steady riddims. Reissue of their first release (we have 2 others); band from the Northeast. Most of the first half is instruments/dubs/versions, most of the second half is songs.
No FCCs detected. All excellent (except 11 – I’m not feeling the vocals), the spread is not as extreme as the stars make it look.
1. 4:38 **starts with simple guitar strums, then somewhat downtempo roots skank (with a hint of bubble) instrumental. Mellow and good-vibes-y. Seems a little fuzzy, but not very dubby. More of a “version”…
2. 4:05 ***midtempo dubby skank with lots of bass. Some extremely dubbed out vocals midway through.
3. 3:15 **midtempo roots skank with lots of highhat and extremely dubby guitar/crystal clear horns.
4. 3:38 ****nice! Ska/rock steady riddim, definitely lifts the spirits. A bit of vocals, a bit dubby but lyrics are clear.
5. 3:27 ****a bit uptempo, a bit rock steady, a bit almost 60’s psychedelic, cool.
6. 5:34 ** very downtempo, very dubby skank. VERY dubby – whoooo! Crickety sounds for last several seconds.
7. 3:45 **very rootsy, Rastafarian song, really sounds a lot like early Bob Marley.
8. 6:40 *uptempo bubble with toasting, and a LOT of clarinet solo
9. 3:45 ** very downtempo, almost menacing-sounding skank, prominent bass, vocals a bit back in the mix.
10. 4:08 ****odd diddly intro, then very roots midtempo skank with melodica. Falsetto vocals – fun. Very dubby for last minute or so.
11. 5:32 downtempo skank with electric guitar and very normal-sounding vocals.
12. 3:14 **uptempo bubble, classic reggae vocal trio vocals. Diatribe lyrics, bits of dub.
