Rollicking to droney free jazz/electronics, prepared piano and guitar. Complex percussion/rhythms, zone-out drone parts, interesting tunings/harmonies. Tracks 1-3 dense noodly crazy. Tracks 4-6 contemplative droney stretched out. Piano comparisons Nancarrow, Cecil Taylor, Sergei Kuryokin and Cornelius Cardew (and probably more jazz ones I don’t know about). Fred Frith does a ton of different experimental guitar stuff. Very good.
1. Starts thunder sounds, slow tense gradually denser, rumbly, jazzy, tapers off mellower last 3 minutes.
**2. Skittery scrapey snappy crunchy slidey. Spatial, beautiful harmonies, fun rhythms. Zany. Would be great next to Nancarrow.
*3. Starts funky. Good god. Again please. Dense parts with icky tunings, Tibetan bell-like parts. Diverse and epic.
4. Contemplative and responsive. Crunchy/glass/keys, scraping, prep piano, jazz/impressionist tinkles. Nice sliding and held tones. I could live in those tones.
5. Strumming guitar and thick cascading piano chords. Rumble drone strum. “Normal” chords first 4 minutes. About 7:00 left gets more out but – jammy! – percussive, repetitive rhythms, weird sounds. Diverse style-wise – rock-drone-ambient-space-electronic-classical-jazz.
6. Like Debussy’s Reflections on the Water for weirdo prepared guitar and piano, minus the climax. Pretty, makes me smile.
