Nels Cline in full improv/experimental mode, with synths and accordion from Andrea Parkins (who plays with Ellery Eskelin) and drums by Tom Rainey (a Tim Berne favorite).
Instrumental. FCC clean.
Reprise of the one-off trio that performed on the album "Out Trios Volume Three" (in our library). Apparently, the Victo folks aked them to perform at the annual Musique Actuelle fest, and this was the result. I recall their first CD being more wandering an exploratory; this one gets a bit more into a psych freak-out sound, although it doesn't rely on jam rhythms at all.
1- The centerpiece, a 37-minute improv. Slow, chiming start, quite ambient. Electronic shimmer. Later, gets dark and noisy, lots of chunky guitar, and works its way into a long psych-influenced jam with a heavy mood. A bass groove picks things up later, and some tinkly electronic blips leads to a soft landing that ends abruptly.
2- Loud and electronics-laden. Quiet start, slow ringing. After 5 minutes, explodes into a total frenzy, with Cline just shredding. Around 10:50, slower experimental territory: sonic blips and distorted vocal samples. Back to thunderous blurring later.
3- Subdued noodling, gets active & fast enough to be a good airplay snippet.
