Upbeat, chirpy jazz: Pleasant jamming with a friendly sound that could sometimes pass for indie rock. The sax gets skronky in places, but overall it's very accessible. Frequently, songs build to a peak where the bass is loping along calmly while the drums and sax tear it up.
This trio comes from the same direction as The Bad Plus (same drummer), but less bombastic; these guys have been KZSU faves for several years now. Instrumental; FCC clean.
- Multiphased: Kinda funky ... breezy "easy" jazz ... stern chunky attack ... snappy fast riffing
- Steady beat. Tuneful "hit single" feel.
- Nearly straight jazz, fast. Bebop with free jazz twists, joyously cluttered in spots.
- Easygoing and spare, gets into some mid-ferocious riffing.
- Light. Mostly easy and pleasant.
- Happy little tune: gets into Calypso-style bass riffing while drums bash and sax buzzes
- Placid, slow
- Gentle mid/fast. Solo builds to high energy.
- Heavyhanded midtempo stroll: Stiff beat under a calm melody that turns dark and ferocious later.
- Languid, relaxed little jam. Gets blazing and thundering later.
- Angular near-funky stepping. 2nd half calm, approaching ambiance
